Shopify Marketplace Connect Inventory Sync Troubleshooting
Quick Answer
When Shopify Marketplace Connect inventory is not syncing as expected, troubleshoot one known SKU first. Check the marketplace account connection, confirm that the marketplace listing is linked to the correct Shopify product, verify the selected inventory location, and review marketplace-specific quantity settings before making bulk edits.
Shopify's current Help Center says Marketplace Connect syncs listings, orders and inventory across supported marketplaces. For existing marketplace listings, the app tries to match Shopify products using SKU, UPC or title; after a listing is linked to the product, Marketplace Connect begins syncing orders and inventory for that linked listing.
Also check whether another marketplace connector app is still active. Shopify explicitly recommends using only one marketplace connector app to avoid data conflicts.
Quick Reference
| Check | What to verify | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Account | Correct marketplace account is connected | No sync can occur through a disconnected account |
| Listing link | Marketplace listing is linked to the exact Shopify product | Existing listings only sync after the correct product relationship is established |
| Match data | SKU / UPC / title points to the right item | Marketplace Connect uses these values to suggest matches |
| Inventory location | Correct Shopify location is selected | Marketplace Connect lets you choose the inventory location used for marketplace products |
| Marketplace quantity rules | Buffer, maximum, offer/fulfillment settings are intentional | Marketplace-specific settings can change the displayed quantity |
| Connector conflict | Only one marketplace connector app manages the channel | Shopify warns that multiple connector apps can create data conflicts |

Prepare in one place
Publish Action
Record one SKU, its linked listing, inventory location and marketplace settings before changing anything in bulk.
Use one preparation flow for sizes, titles, descriptions, keywords, and checklists instead of switching between separate tools.
Troubleshoot in This Order
### 1. Confirm the marketplace account
Open Marketplace Connect and confirm that you are looking at the intended marketplace and regional account. A correct product record cannot fix a disconnected or wrong account relationship.
### 2. Confirm the listing is linked
For existing marketplace listings, open the link-listings workflow and verify that the marketplace listing is connected to the exact Shopify product.
Marketplace Connect can suggest a match from:
- SKU;
- UPC;
- product title.
Do not approve a Close match until you have checked that it is the same sellable product and variation.
### 3. Compare the SKU and identity
Record these values for one test item:
- Shopify product and variant;
- Shopify SKU;
- UPC/GTIN when present;
- marketplace listing ID / offer;
- marketplace SKU;
- current Shopify available quantity;
- expected marketplace quantity.
If the identities do not line up, solve that before changing inventory numbers.
### 4. Check the inventory location
Shopify lets Marketplace Connect use a selected inventory location for products. The location can be configured individually, in bulk, or for all products in a regional marketplace.
If the selected location has zero or different available inventory, a correct total elsewhere in Shopify does not prove that the marketplace is reading the quantity you expected.
### 5. Check marketplace-specific quantity settings
Marketplace rules can modify the displayed quantity.
For example, current Shopify Help documents eBay inventory adjustments such as a fixed value, buffer, or maximum quantity. Amazon also separates shared Listing content from each seller's Offer, where price, quantity and fulfillment settings live.
Before calling the sync broken, confirm that the marketplace's quantity/offer rule is not intentionally changing the visible number.
### 6. Check for a second connector app
Shopify's current setup guidance says it is important to have only one marketplace connector app connected to avoid data conflicts. If you migrated from another connector, confirm that the old connector is disconnected before diagnosing Marketplace Connect.
One-SKU Diagnostic Sheet
Use one product before bulk changes:
| Field | Example |
| --- | --- |
| Shopify SKU | ABC-RED-M |
| Shopify inventory location | Main warehouse |
| Shopify available | 12 |
| Marketplace | Amazon US |
| Linked listing | Yes / No |
| Marketplace SKU | ABC-RED-M |
| Quantity rule | Default / buffer / max / marketplace-specific |
| Expected marketplace qty | 12 |
| Actual marketplace qty | 8 |
| Next check | Link / location / quantity rule / connector conflict |

Common Mistakes
- Editing quantities in several systems before identifying the source of truth.
- Linking a similar product because the title looks close.
- Assuming the store-wide inventory total is the same as the Marketplace Connect inventory location.
- Forgetting a marketplace quantity buffer or maximum.
- Running Marketplace Connect and another connector app against the same channel.
- Bulk-changing hundreds of listings before one SKU is proven.
Safe Recovery Sequence
1. Pick one SKU with known inventory.
2. Confirm the marketplace account.
3. Confirm the exact listing link.
4. Confirm SKU/UPC/product identity.
5. Confirm the Marketplace Connect inventory location.
6. Review marketplace-specific quantity/offer settings.
7. Confirm no competing connector app is active.
8. Only then expand the fix to a small batch.
Publish Action
Use Publish to keep a troubleshooting record with SKU, listing ID, inventory location, expected quantity, marketplace quantity and next action. Do not let a troubleshooting note become a second inventory source of truth.
